Assorted 2” Carnivorous Plant Care Guide
These tiny hunters may be small, but they’re mighty! Carnivorous plants use their unique traps to thrive in nutrient-poor soil. Follow these simple care tips to keep your new plant healthy and happy.
Light- Bright, indirect sunlight or grow light for at least 6 hours per day. Venus flytraps and sundews love direct sunlight, while pitcher plants prefer filtered light.
Water- Only use distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water — tap water can harm your plant. Keep the soil damp at all times, but avoid waterlogged roots. A tray under the pot with 1/4” of water works great for maintaining moisture.
Humidity- Most carnivorous plants love humidity (50–70%). Misting is okay, but avoid soaking the leaves or traps.
Soil- Use carnivorous plant mix (usually peat moss + perlite or sand). Never use regular potting soil or fertilizer.
Feeding- No need to feed if the plant catches bugs on its own! If kept indoors, offer a small insect (like a gnat or fruit fly) every few weeks. Never feed meat or processed food.
Dormancy (for Venus Flytraps & Some Pitchers)- These plants may need a winter rest period. Reduce watering and light during late fall and winter, then resume care in spring.
